School News
Student Council – Following elections held earlier in the term, the student representatives recently elected Faith Agbele and Clodagh Percival as Chair and Secretary respectively of our Student Council. Faith and Clodagh will shape the agenda for Council meetings and be a powerful voice for the student body over the coming months. They have been invited to meet with the school’s Staff and Board of Management in the coming weeks to discuss their programme of work.
World of Work Programme – St. Farnan’s is delighted to continue its partnership with SAP Ireland and the Business in the Community initiative. Now in its ninth year, the partnership continues to inspire students in the school to learn more about the world of work through workshops in school and visits to the SAP Irish headquarters in Citywest. The 40 2nd year students involved this year recently enjoyed a wonderful visit to SAP where they had the opportunity to tour their high-tech offices and staff facilities, meet with staff from a variety of departments and engage in a dynamic question and answer session with the Managing Director, Liam Ryan.
Positive Behaviour Programme – In St. Farnan’s Post Primary School, our Positive Behaviour for Learning Initiatives allow the whole-school community to celebrate the successes and achievements of our students. We use them to reinforce their social, emotional, behavioural and academic development and progression. They play a key role in creating a positive learning and teaching environment in our school. Pictured are some of the postcards that teachers send to students to acknowledge great efforts, progress and achievement in their learning.
Senior Girls Soccer Success – Our Senior Girls soccer team, captained by Ireland U19 international Orlaith O’ Mahony, has had a fantastic run in the Senior B Cup this year. They have reached the Leinster final which will be played in the coming weeks and it will be a great occasion for the entire school. Best of luck to the team and mentors Mr. Malone & Ms. McKenna.
Transition Year Update – We are delighted to have two TY classes this year and they have had a very busy and productive first term. The students in Transition Year Classes Abbey and Druid have had a very busy beginning to the school year. In addition to their core course work and taster senior cycle modules, the TYs have enjoyed several workshops which included Dance & Fitness, Resilience & Emotional Wellbeing with EiSHT, Internet Safety, Introduction to Coding, Personal Safety & Consent and Develop Me . They have also had workshops which were tailored to their Work Experience preparation including Workplace Etiquette & Communications with the School of Life, Manual Handling with Tyrus Training and Communications and Confidence with Movement More. They have enjoyed Forensics Workshops, Film Days and making their own Bodhráns, as well as engaging very positively with Disability Equality and Awareness events. The students have been on several trips including to the National Ploughing Championships and teambuilding days in Redhills Adventure Centre, to Bayports in Athlone, Mount Lucas and Donadea Forest. They have been involved in many school activities including the Breakfast Club, the European Day of Languages, Maths Week and Science Week, as well as helping with the school teams. They continue to do their work experience, to work on the EPAS programme, their suite of online courses and their Gaisce challenges. They are a fantastic bunch and they have been an absolute pleasure to work with this term!
Stand Up Awareness Week – The school community came together for Stand Up Awareness week with excellent displays, events and a rainbow day.
St. Farnan’s School Choir – Our school choir, under the able baton of Ms. Lawlor, was asked to sing at the ETBI’s national launch of the Framework on Ethos in the Killashee Hotel, Naas on November 23rd. Their performance was very well received and they look forward to performing in the Whitewater shopping centre in Newbridge on December 19th.
Christmas Hampers – As a school community, we would like to help local families in need this Christmas. Over the coming weeks, we are asking all students to bring in one food item per week to contribute to their class hamper in their tutor’s room. All food items will be collected by the TYs and organised into food hampers which will be distributed to families just before Christmas.
