ETBs to Lead Regional Education Response to those Fleeing Ukraine

One-stop shop for all schools, English classes, and ICT devices amongst measures by ETBs

As part of this response Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB), see kwetb.ie, is coordinating a multi-agency Regional Education and Language Team (REALT), responding to the local need for English Language classes and preparing to deploy laptops and tablets to support schools providing places for Ukrainian children.

Regional Education and Language Teams, which include professionals and representatives from Tusla’s Education Support Service, school psychological services, special education needs specialists and school management bodies, are being established in each of Ireland’s sixteen Education and Training Board regions, including KWETB. ETB’s also have

• A dedicated Coordinator to support each Regional Education and Language Team
• A dedicated school support email and phone number
• A dedicated register of ICT devices (laptops, notebooks, tablets, and other mobile devices) to facilitate eLearning.

While schools continue to be the primary contact point for Ukrainian families seeking places for their children, the Regional Education and Language Team will assist those schools in terms of supporting capacity, sharing information and resources including those for ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages).

KWETB’s Further Education & Training (FET) service will play a key role in the delivery of ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) providing

• A single point of contact for ESOL provision through their Adult Education Officer
• Access to nationwide network of adult guidance services
• A Family Learning ESOL toolkit.

Welcoming these developments, General Secretary of Education and Training Boards Ireland,

Paddy Lavelle stated: “Because of our nationwide locations and in-house administrative supports, Education & Training Boards, including KWETB are ideally placed to co-ordinate this response in collaboration with our partners across the entire school sector. We are all focused on making the initial entry into our education system as stress-free as possible for our Ukrainian arrivals.

Education and Training Boards Ireland (ETBI) has also appointed a designated lead to support ETBs and we are liaising closely with the Department of Education and the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.”

KWETB, Chief Executive, Dr Deirdre Keyes, wishes to acknowledge and thank staff for the rapid response and great support to date that has been offered to Ukrainian people from our schools, adult education and training centres and support services .

Ірландські ради з освіти та навчання очолили національні освітні
заходи з надання допомоги учасникам з України
Шістнадцять універсальних магазинів для всіх шкіл, класи англійської мови та

Поради щодо освіти та навчання (ETBs) координують створення шістнадцяти міжвідомчих
регіональних груп з освітиі мови (REALT), реагуючи на необхідність проведення занять з англійської
мови та надаючи ноутбуки та планшети для підтримки шкіл, які надають місця для українських дітей.
До складу кожної регіональної групи з освітиі мови входять фахівці та представники Служби
підтримки освіти, шкільні психологічні служби, фахівці з особливих освітніх потреб та органи
управління школами. До складу ЕТB також входять
● Спеціальний координатор для підтримки кожної регіональної групи з освіти та мови
● Спеціальна електронна пошта та номер шкільної підтримки (подробиці на сайті
www.etbi.ie).
● Спеціальний реєстр ІКТ-пристроїв (ноутбуки, портативні комп’ютери, планшети та інші
мобільні пристрої) для сприяння електронному навчанню.
У той час як школи залишаються основним контактним центром для українських сімей, які шукають
місця для своїх дітей, регіональні групи з освіти і мови будуть допомагати цим школам в плані
підтримки потенціалу, обміну інформацією та ресурсами, включаючи ресурси для ESOL
(англомовних носіїв інших мов).
Послуги ЕТB з подальшої освіти і навчання (FET) будуть грати ключову роль у наданні ESOL
(англійська мова для говорячих на інших мовах), забезпечуючи
● Єдиний контактний пункт для надання ESOL через свого співробітника за освітою
дорослих
● Доступ до загальнонаціональної мережі консультаційних служб для дорослих
● Інструментарій по ESOL для сімейного навчання.
