Ethos Week in Curragh Community College

Ethos Week in Curragh Community College

As part of our school’s Wellbeing Calendar, Curragh Community College celebrated our inaugural ‘Ethos Week‘, beginning Monday, the 19th September. The week was coordinated by Sinead Gorman, CCC’s Ethos Coordinator and Selina Conway, Wellbeing Coordinator. The purpose of the week was to explore and celebrate KWETB’s five core values of Respect, Equality, Excellence in Education, Care and Community at a whole-school level and bring them alive for our student body and school community. Various activities took place, both inside and outside the classroom, such as bespoke lessons for each tutor class to embed understanding and provoke discussion about the chosen value being celebrated each day. A ‘Frame It’ photo opportunity for all students to highlight that particular value, hot chocolate on ‘Care’ Thursday and a vibrant and informative display on the wellbeing board to showcase all of the activities and initiatives taking place as part of the celebration. Pupils and past pupils were also given the opportunity to share their voice by taking part in ‘Here’s What Our Students Say’ which involved them writing about how their experience in the school was shaped by the Ethos core values. Their insights were shared with the entire school community. At our staff meeting, representatives from our Business in the Community Partner, HRI, gave a presentation on our community links and the enriching experiences brought about by these links. We were also delighted to invite parents of our first-year students in for a coffee morning during which they were treated to fresh homemade scones, courtesy of the Home Economics department. This community gathering was a lovely experience for all involved and an opportunity to meet both new and familiar faces. It was a fantastic week of reflection, celebrating all that we hold dear in Curragh Community College.
