Confey College
Top Grade and Fergal Quinn Award for Two of Confey Colleges LCA Students
The awards took place during the LCANA Conference in the Athlone Springs Hotel on Saturday 21st January. The awards are given to students who achieve 100% in their Leaving Certificate Applied Examinations. Eamon Quinn, of Dragon’s Den fame, presented the awards to the students. Sean Roche was accompanied by his Mam Emma and his Nana Sheila at the ceremony. Unfortunately, Jack, who was ill, could not attend, however his Mam Emma accepted the award on his behalf. Rita Reynolds, the programme coordinator also attended the awards ceremony. Ms Reynold said ‘This is the first time Confey College students have received this award and we are very proud of Jack and Sean who worked very hard to achieve 100% over the two year programme’.
Jack Corcoran is currently doing an Electrical Apprenticeship and Sean is studying Business and Finance in The College of Further Education Inchicore.
Leaving Cert Applied is an excellent programme which gives students the opportunity to pursue their studies in an academic and vocational environment.
Confey College has a long history of promoting the Leaving Certificate Applied programme. It allows students to study core subjects for example English and communications, Mathematical Applications and Social Studies. The specialism offered are Hotel Catering and Tourism and Graphics and Construction. Students go on four work placements over the two year period. Students from the programme have gone onto successful careers in a variety of areas including Event Management, Apprenticeships, Hotel Management and Business and Finance.
