New College Crest for Curragh Community College

Curragh Community College School Crest – A Community Affair Curragh Community College’s new school crest was unveiled last May at the annual Student Awards Night and is proudly displayed on new signage outside the school and on all newly purchased uniform items. The design of the crest was a community effort which involved all stakeholders, and Student Voice was at the centre of the design process with the Student Council leading the project. The crest is reflective of the growing school’s proud roots and embodies its culture and vision. The crest showcases four distinct symbols that celebrate various aspects of the school community and ethos. To the left, an image of the famous racehorse, Galileo, reflects community and the Curragh school’s proud connection to the Curragh of Kildare and community that surrounds it. An image of a torch is displayed on the right. This symbol was chosen to celebrate CCC’s proud tradition of excellence in education, representing inspiration, knowledge and education. The image embodies the Irish poet W.B. Yeats’ famous words: ‘Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire’. Underpinning community and excellence in education is the key symbol of ‘care’. This was especially important to the Student Council, when designing the crest, as they wanted a symbol that highlighted community, equality, and the ability to open the doors to the world – all aspects of Curragh Community College that they recognise and value, as students in the school. Surrounding these images is an oak leaf border which underpins the school’s proud place in the community and its rich history and tradition. Curragh Community College wishes to sincerely thank all stakeholders for their support in this project, particularly Horse Racing Ireland, the school’s Business in the Community Partner, whose graphic design team kindly brought the reimagined crest to life for the school community.
