Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools
DEIS supports schools in providing student supports such as, supporting smaller class sizes, access to the Home School Community Liaison Service (HSCL), access to the School Meals Programme and the Schools Books Grant Scheme. DEIS also delivers a range of supports to schools as part of the School Completion Programme.
DEIS empowers schools to improve the educational journey for those who begin education at a disadvantage. DEIS ensures that any student who might be disadvantaged coming into education gets the best possible support available. DEIS supports programmes for children with learning challenges. DEIS was designed to give specific support to schools who have a significant concentration of disadvantage in their area.
The main aim of DEIS is to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged children and to close any gaps in education for them so they can develop better educational and life pathways, through strong and consistent support from schools.
