Protected Disclosures

Kildare and Wicklow ETB are fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and probity and ensuring that the culture and working environment of Kildare and Wicklow ETB encourages, facilitates and supports any worker of the organisation to ‘speak up’ on any issue that could impinge on the organisations ability to carry out its roles and responsibilities to the highest standards.

The Protected Disclosures Act 2014 provides a framework within which workers can raise concerns regarding potential wrongdoing that has come to their attention in the workplace in the knowledge that they can avail of significant and other protections for doing so. Kildare and Wicklow ETB view protected disclosures as a critical element in the effective governance of Kildare and Wicklow ETB and in fostering a culture of honesty and ethical behaviour. Workers within the organisation are often best placed to identify alleged wrongdoing and Kildare and Wicklow ETB fosters a receptive culture to deal with any alleged offences in an appropriate and timely manner, all the time ensuring the worker is supported effectively.

As required by section 21 of the Protected Disclosures Act 2014, all public bodies shall establish and maintain internal procedures for workers to make protected disclosures. Therefore, Kildare and Wicklow ETB have developed a policy in tandem with the legislation, to encourage workers to report potential wrongdoing in the knowledge that their concerns will be taken seriously and investigated where appropriate, and their confidentiality respected. The policy also details procedures for making a protected disclosure.
